The car park is located next to the railway station, The Shrewsbury Prison and a short walk from the town centre.

Shrewsbury Prison is a recently (2013) decommissioned Victorian jail where you can walk in the footsteps of our social history and listen whilst an ex prison officer shines a light on what life was like for both the incarcerated and those who guarded them through the ages.

The huge site (ideal for social distancing) is open to explore and you can visit and experience amongst others, the original Victorian cells including those used for segregation, the exercise yards, the execution room and where the prisoners were processed as they arrived in jail.

This is an immersive experience without gizmos or gimmicks – the jail is very much as it was when the last prisoners left in 2013

Shrewsbury Prison is recognised (BBC Radio 4) as 6th in the best Dark Tourism sites in the world to visit alongside Auschwitz, Ground Zero and Chernobyl  – the only UK location to feature.
